What is reflexology?
There are over 7000 nerve endings in the feet.
Reflexology is a specific pressure technique applied to the feet or hands where all the internal body structures and organs are mapped or mirrored in miniature. The ancient art of reflexology accesses these nerve endings which are linked to every organ and system of the body. Through skillful manipulation a reflexologist can help to unblock the flow of energy in organs and rebalance entire systems. It is a simple non-invasive treatment, which aims to enhance the energy flow and thus essentially work the entire body and all its systems encouraging the body to restore itself and work again in unison.
How reflexology works
Reflexology can activate definitive physical and psychological responses. It may induce a state of deep relaxation, improve circulation, stimulate nerve supply, and enhance energy, vitality and the client’s sense of wellbeing.Reflexology is a complementary therapy, that is, it is used in conjunction with conventional medicine to assist in the body’s recovery from certain diseases and illnesses. It does not diagnose or cure. Reflexology is a renewal and maintenance programme for the body. It not only aids recovery but helps the body to maintain health. It is not necessary to have a ‘symptom’ to benefit from reflexology.
In a busy and unrelenting world, the positive effects of giving ourselves the ‘time out’ required to receive a treatment should not be underestimated.
